Just traded my '98 A6 wagon for an '01 cashmere/melange A6 Avant. Love the car - except for the gas mileage. I'm getting no more than 21-22 mpg strictly highway, and 16-17 combined city/hwy. My '01 S4 6speed gets 22 overall. What's the mileage like with the allroad? Is it worth the extra $$? I would have gone for it, but my wife liked the more subdued looks of the A6.

I'm getting a whopping 16.8 mpg in my first tank of gas. But then I'm laying on the throttle and playing with the Tiptronic (without over-revving), and trying to break it in properly, but firmly. A mix of city and highway. I'm sure I can do better if I accelerate slowly, but what fun would that be? Once I lay out the dough for a full filling of premium gas, I may settle down...or not! It's just too much fun pulling away from Mercedes, SUKs, etc.

Just got my first tank of gas (see above) and it's about 17mpg. Let's hope both our cars improve as they break in.
