to those who have the A6 4.2, why did you pick it over the GS 400?

What a coincidence
The vehicle I had between the GS400 and 2.7T was a Boxster. However, mine was a 99 and as a result did not have the most recent power train enhancements much less what the S has to offer. I did have traction control as an option but no stability control. Don’t even know if that’s an option. Anyway, I loved the car as a sports car. True it was real wheel drive, but with the rear mounted engine, it stuck to the road like a dream. Got rid of it because m wife wasn’t to comfortable in it and I do have two kids. The only thing I miss with my current Audi is the ragtop. I’m keeping a watchful eye on the expected A4 with Saturn coupe like rear doors. Of course, the 911 has four seats(just a little stretch there) and the all wheel drive option. I doubt I’ll swing that one anytime soon, but between the two, their as close to no compromise as I can get from my perspective. I doubt I’ll go back to a two seater until I’m ready to get a second car for myself. Just seems like it would be a major decision every morning … do I drive the Boxster or the sedan… I have a feeling I know what would win except in snow. Enjoy the S!

Porsche losing its mind
In addition to the Cayenne, they are now talking about a 4-door supercar AND a station wagon.
A previous 4-door adventure is what almost drove them out of business back in the '80s (or was it the '70s?).

I'll give you that
I don’t get the whole new direction that Porsche is experimenting with. Hopefully theirs sales are solid to allow them to do the exploring they are thinking about. I know most people seem to be upset with the similarity between the 911 and the Boxster. I drove one and I still struggle to differentiate. I just hope they know what they are doing as the cars they are making are very strong. Maybe increased sales elsewhere will lead to lower 911 prices. Like I’m holding my breath over that one.

GS400 is an excellent car, but the Audi 4.2:
1. Consistent exterior/interior styling. You look at the GS exterior, and even more so the interior, and the parts do not make a seamless whole.
2. Quattro. The GS may be quicker to 60 on dry pavement, but when it gets wet it can't match the Audi. Even on dry pavement it does not have the stability of the quattro.
2. Safety - active (quattro) and passive - side curtain airbag that covers front and rear windows.
3. Audi dealer v. Lexus dealer. I found Lexus dealer attitude (Aren't you lucky to be able to buy a car from us...) troubling.<p>2000 4.2

A6 4.2 is a much better looking car. Especially the outside.
Interior space is laid out much better in the A6 4.2. Especially the trunk.
No fold down rear seats in the GS400. I use them all the time in my A6 4.2.
And last but certainly not least...Quattro, Quattro, Quattro. I love my Quattro! Anyone who thinks this is only significant in snow country is really missing something IMHO!
