Default Tie Rod End help!

Noticed both the rubber boots on my tie rod ends were torn. Ordered two new Meyle s from ECS. Got everything apart, including loosening the lock nut that locks the 18mm adjustment hex. Only problem, the tie rod end will not unscrew from the 18mm adjustment hex, which I obviously need to do to screw the new one in. It seems like the tie rod end it practically welded in (stuck by corrosion I guess.) I sprayed half a bottle of penetrating oil at the hex and let it sit a few hours, spraying in more in between. Didnt help.

How can I get the end loose?

BTW, I have a compressor and air hammer if that helps

Default Probably because they would replace the whole tie rod...

instead of just the ends and charge more on labour and parts

Default You've got to get a good grip on the tie rod and an eqaul grip on the assembly it attaches to

They can be a real pain

Is it easier to take the entire tie rod out?

Default The entire rod? as opposed to what? You just want to remove the tie rod end itself

It has a locknut that stops the travel of the tie rods threads. 5/8" and a 7/8" wrench should suffice.

PB blaster spray works the best, btw.

Try PB Blaster, which is available at Napa Auto stores.
