Tie-rod work at dealer....
#2
Sounds in the ballpark ...
Worth asking them if "another" suspension component is going south as well. If under Audi Assured (??) warranty, the service manager may be able to get the alignment covered as part of the fix for the other component.
Just thinking off the top, I believe tie-rods are one of the few things not covered.

Glad I did it myself.
$105 plus shipping for the improved Meyle tie rod ends, need to get the alignment checked, which will probably run $75 or so (I'm anticipating my tire/alignment shop won't charge the full $100 alignment price).
Probably took 1-1/2 hours, not counting the time for the pentrating oil to marianate on the threads.

My dealer quoted $850!
I just called this week and was going to post on this same topic.
I called Monday for a quote. Service rep quoted $850 without any hesitation. I asked what component of that was the alignment...$350. I started laughing at him over the phone and his response was "well there's a lot of labor in an alignment". Anyway, my next call is to the GM to ask if they've been smoking crack or what.
Anyway, $520 sounds a heck of a lot better than $850!

My local high-end tire shop does 4-wheel alignments for $100.
And the guy who does them really knows Audis.
Now, we are in the South (ATL), so much less chance of frozen hardware than in northern (salt on roads) climates. Still, even if in the North, $350 is absurd.
