Default Timing belt change '99 A6 Avant

What is the interval for changing the timing belt on this car with the 2.8 30v V6 (AHA?)? The Audi maintenance manual says 75k miles, but Bentley says 105k miles. Any suggestions? My car has got 84k miles now, about time to do something?

Bentley Publishers 1999 Audi Maintenance Schedule

Default That chart makes no sense.

Take a look at the interval for the 1.8t belt change - there's no dot, just an asterisk that says 105k. i think that when you check the intervals, ignore the heading at the top for the V8 & V6; use the one in black. Something is not right. 75k is correct.

Default and...

look at the interval for changing the timing belt tensioner roller: it's *different* than the timing belt interval.

In other words, you pull the car apart, change the tensioner (but not the belt), 20k later you change the belt (but not the tensioner), then you change the tensioner again.

Something is not right there.

I just had a '98 A6 (30 valve) done at 104K. Cost was 1250.00 It included belt tensioners, water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat and coolant flush. We decided to do it because we are keeping the car for a while. As to when to do it....100K seems long enough.

Default It's not necessarily the TB, but...

other parts, such as the water pump, TB tensioner, rollers, or other ball-bearing parts that fail, which sieze the TB and cause catastrophic failure in your engine.

Therefore, get everything changed... TB, waterpump, tensioners, accessory belt, rollers, etc.

Nobody can accurately predict when any or all of these parts will fail, but beyond the 60K mark seems to be high risk.

Good luck!

Default Dont forget to change everything else while it's apart!!!

Waterpump, thermostat, pullies, tensioners, maybe even the camshaft seals.
