Default It's a full day. Not easy to come up with the time.

Maybe at the end of May. That should be in the low 80's, milage wise. <sigh>

Default If you do not do it during the summer you will end up with no choice about doing it...

in the winter or sell the car, even if you are not in a position to do so. Also...the car will be worth slightly more or be easier to sell with it done.

Default I ran the original belt on the A4 140k, so you never really know when the end is.

To maximize your maintenance dollar, change the belt the day before is breaks. ;-)
I think my choices are to change it asap or not at all. At 255k, it does have some valve, but how much can the car be worth at this point?

Default Roll the dice...

I for one do not think mileage is a very good metric for timing belt wear and, more importantly, as an indicator of when the belt is about to go. 2 years ago?? Are you kidding? That thing should have tons of useful life left in it. I can't believe you are even considering it now.

I did mine at about 90K because I knew that my expected life of the car was to about 180k. It is possible I could keep it longer than that.

But at the cost to do it again (probably 1k) vs. the expected value of the vehicle at that time (probably 2k), I don't see it ever getting done again on this car.

Default Good point.

As for wear, the belt isn't my main concern; it's the bearings. Still, you point on value is taken.

Why would you even pose your Q to this forum?

Default but you'd burn a day figuring out if it was worth fixing...or looking for a replacement...

this lets you fix or replace on your schedule, not when you have to do something...which is guaranteed to happen when the car is 200 miles away from home, you have final exams, and some audit due for work...
