Default Tip failed and went into safe mode

Maybe coding the tip from 02 to 32 which includes full revs in 1st gear is not such a good idea. I drove away from a stop light, full throttle and forgot I was in tip mode (it was a long drive). The transmission over revved, a loud thud occurred and all the gear selection lights lit on the dash as it went into single gear mode. I drove it a few miles before I was brave enough to restart the car to my surprised it reset itself and is now working fine.
I might recode it and remove the max revs in 1st gear feature. Any comments to what really happened inside the tranny?

Yeah, is too easy to forget you're in tip mode in 1st, esp after downshifting by itself.

Default Agree that redline capability in 1st is useless, but...

does your car seem quicker in Auto with the 32 mode. Mine does and I've also got better gas mileage with the last 3 tankfulls. I don't think its my imagination.

It should automatically upshift at redline. Also upshifts to 2 if you lift throttle.

Default Not with the '00032' re-coding courtesy of Vag-com

but that's the whole point of the recode, to hold 1st when desired.

it is still supposed to shift at redline, but esp. in 1st it can overshoot.

Default I was only referring to the "upshift if you lift off throttle" part

but... it will blow redline in 1st? Damn. Well, the rev limiter is still there as 2nd back up, isn't that right?

Default I have the re-code and it does upshift at the redline. Also upshifts if you lift throttle.

When stock, the 1-2 shift occurs real quick unless you're floored. With the recode, it holds 1st as long as you have the pedal down at all. At least with my car, if I lift off completely in 1st, it upshifts to 2nd. I confirmed with others (including S4 forum) that this is the typical way the 00032 recode works.

Default I don't understand your confusion....

With or without the mod, there is a rev limiter. Unfortunately in 1st, one can overrev because rpm is rising too fast for the limiter to catch it every time. If one does the "hold 1st" mod, then you encounter this problem too often. That's why the 00012 mod is the more conservative choice. Or 00002.
