Default Tip Steering Wheel for MY 2001 2.7T

Has anyone taken delivery with Tip Steering?? I was supposed to have a Tip Wheel according to my distributor (who says he has an audit trail to AoA). All other Sports Package pieces were there but instead of up and down shifting I'm having a "great time" finding radio stations. Anyone for a class action against AoA for false advertising??? ((sort of kidding)).

Maybe you could tear the tip wheel off an A4. Best I've heard, none on any A6's in this model year.

Default Alas, . . .

the Audi USA Website mentions an optional multifunction steering wheel with radio/phone/Tip controls for the 2.7T, but the actual 2001 MY brochure makes no such mention (just the usual multifunction steering wheel with radio/phone controls). Every source I've heard from indicates there will not be any Tip controls on the wheel this year; maybe for MY 2002.

Its useless anyway. How can you tip shift on the wheel when it is upside down in a corner?

Default The sterring wheel on the A8 has tip...

According to the AoA website the A8 has the multi-function wheel like the A6 plus it has Tiptronic controls. I have not seen one so I don't know if its true. But, I bet the wheels are interchangable (same motor, same tranny, same column, etc.)

Maybe you can pursuade your dealer to give you the A8 wheel so that you will drop your class action suit ((just kidding))
--robert

Default Excuse me, but that`s bull****

You`re right in one thing though, it`s hard to use upside down, but else it is definitely not useless.

On small roads with cornes, in steep hills (up or down), when passing cars with small margins and you need massive acceleration, I wouldn`t be without my tip wheel.
You have more control, being able to shift manually while keeping both hands on the wheel.
And it makes driving more fun.

Default probably incorrect

The A8L is missing the TIP controls according to the website. That doesn't seem right.

Default Re: probably incorrect

Check the specs section, its like the thrid item listed in the features list. I also noticed it did not showed up in the quicktime of the car, but there could be lots of reasons for that. Have you seen the A8 to confirm this? I think that would the final answer.

It would be cool to have as part of the sport packages.
--robert

Default not there for A8L

It's there for the A8 as you said, but not the A8L. Also, if Audi set up the website at the beginning of the MY when they thought they would have TIP controls, but never updated it...

The website said the 2.7T had 4-piston calipers up front for much of last year even though it never did.
