Tips to remove door sill trim?

Hey guys, I hope all is well in your part of the Audi Universe.

I want to get access under my C5 sedan floor carpets to change, of all things, the floor mat retaining clips (I'm sick of my mats having a mind of their own). Anyone got tips or pointers on how to remove the plastic trim and scuff plates on the door sills (front and rear) without breaking any hidden/unseen clips (they don't seem to be screwed down)? Any DIY's or diagrams maybe? Cheers. M

As I'm replacing the metal prongs that fit up through the carpet and into the plastic mat fittings, I unfortunately need to get underneath. If only it was the plastic fittings!
