As I posted before, I'm having a problem with the transmission in my 2003 A6 not wanting to shift out of 1st gear when it's cold (it doesn't shift at all, even at redline). I understand that the normal trans programming may hold it in 1st longer than normal until the vehicle's warmed up, but since the I just bought the car, I don't know what the normal reaction is and just how warm the car has to be for this to stop happening. My second question is whether an aftermarket trans chip also has the programming to delay the shift when it's cold. Finally, does a aftermarket chip really allow the transmission to shift that much faster than it already does in the Sport position? Thanks for any help.

I have been assured of long-time 4.2 owner that this is normal, and he changed his tranny fluid every 30k miles. It is normal...but redline? Are you stomping on the gas before the car is warmed up? Sure, my car holds 1st a bit longer when I first pull it out ont he stree, but I don't immediately floor it to get moving...are you???
