If you are in stop and go traffic at all times a M/T may drive you nuts. I like the M/T but have an A/T as that was all that was available.
No matter what the acceleration time difference, it may be small, but a M/T feels faster and more fun. Nothing beats a M/T for control and fun.

... portrayed as a substitute for a stick, and folks legitimately question whether that is true. Most who are coming from a stick really don't think much of the tip. Those who like the tip just see it as more engaging than full auto.

I have always been a fan of manual transmissioin especially the ones on the BMW and many Japanese cars. That is why I bought the 6 speed on the 2.7. I am pretty happy with it, althought it's not as good as the ones on Nissan/Honda or BMW it's quite smooth and accurate if a bit long on its travel. At first, I could quite get used to the springs that allow it to be pushed down to go to reverse as that is how I shift most of the time in the other cars. Overall, I am pleased especially when I have a change to take the car for a joyride.
However, during stop and go traffic it's not so pleasant. One thing is that the gear ratio is kind of low and because the suspension dive is very evident in the A6 it's hard to drive smoothly; two the turbo lag is especially noticeable under heavy traffic and will prevent one from zip zap between the traffics. That is when I wish I have the auto. But once I get to the open road; wow, can't believe I even thought about having a Tip.... You get to control exactly what gear you're in, it's so much fun when I stump on the throttle and awaits the turbo rush that will surprise everyone around you, passengers and onlookers.

having read most of the European publication on the performance of the 2.7 (Euro) the fasted posted 0-60 time is 6.9 which is almost a second off; don't know if they have a higher gear ratio to cause the huge difference or maybe the Europeans are a lot easier on the cars they tested

A good manual transmission is all the entertainment I needed. Now I actually have CDs in the car!
