What are the best pressures, front and rear, for a 2001 A6 4.2 with the sport package and Continental tires to maximize roadholding and handling, even at the expense of tread life and ride?

My 4.2 gets a full 1.5mpg better with 40lbs. all the way around and the tires last forever.
My feeling is the car handles pretty darn well already, but it gets lousy mileage so I tried to improve that aspect. Just another point of view.

I have Pirelli 6000's on my 4.2 with sport pack. Between NYC where I live and the Jersey Shore where I spend leisure time, the roads are not to good so I keep my tires at 36-37 PSI. It's a good compromise for me.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone found that higher pressures in the front tires--say, four psi more than the rear tires--improves roadholding?
