Spoke to my dealer service manager today and he said that Audi does not cover tire rotation on the free maintenace - if you want tires rotated, there is a charge. Anyone know what gives with this?

Just go to Discount, pay for lifetime balance ($40), and they rotate the tires whenever... for free. Add $90 more to that and get a dual plane roadforce balance done... and if any problems arise with balance they will do it again... and again... until it is right.

I don't rotate unless there is abnormal tire wear. Why upset the balance and cause possible front end vibration? I used to do it but it caused more problems tan it solved.

AoA will only 'pay' for your first rotation. here is the list of things your dealer does for each service milestone:

kinda hard to read - but this is for all '01 Audi models. but i understand it still holds true for newer models for the most part. (the 4th row is "Tires - rotate" and as you can see only the 5K service is checked).
easy solution: just do it yourself. you need another jack or jack-stand and about 40 minutes...<ul><li><a href="http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/audi/audi.2001.maintenance.sched.pdf">Click for better image of maint schedule (PDF!)</a></li></ul>

When I took off my summer tires this fall I noticed that one of my front summer tires had more wear than the other three. The car tracks straight so i don't think I have any alignment problems. I'm guessing I should put that tire back on the front in the spring. Am I correct in assuming the rear tires should wear slightly more per mile than the front?
