tire size for RS6 18" wheels is 255/40; why is that?

tire size for RS6 18" wheels is 255/40; why is that?

stock tire size for A6 4.2 is 255/40/17; so by going to an 18" wheel, why is the tire size for an RS6 still 255/40? shouldn't it be 255/35?

anyone comment?

Going to 35 series tire might be a pretty harsh ride??

I've got 255/35 on the RS 6 19 inchers...very nice ride...not harsh in any way...

It's a 4% larger diameter than the stock 255/40/17s (62.4 mph when the speedo reads 60)...but when I replace them I am going to 265/30/19 to get a nearly exact match to stock...plus adding just a hint of wheel/curb protection!
