Default Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck off???? code 17125

Driving home today, the MIL light came on, got the following code:

17125 - Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck Off/ No Power being transferred
PO741 - 35 - 00

Anyone seen this before? Any thoughts? The car seemed to be running ok and made it home (another 70 miles or so), just noticed a mild hesitation, every now and then, but rarely if at all.

STFA. You need a new torque converter.

Default What is STFA? Are you serious about needing a new torque converter?

How much can I expect that to cost?

Default You obviously have to get tranny pulled to replace TC. You should look

into upgraded TC and valve body when you get it pulled. The OEM TIP trannies are design limited to about 300 ft-lbs of torque which you exceed with X chip.

Here is a link for one company -

http://www.importperformancetrans.com/volkswagonauto.shtml

The other is attached.

You are unfortunatley looking at spending thousands of dollars. Thta's why you want/need an extended warranty.

Good luck<ul><li><a href="http://www.levelten.com/">http://www.levelten.com/</a</li></ul>

Default There are 5 valves that controls the TC. One of them could be stuck giving you the code.

I would vag it and log the transmission-measuring blocks-007-008-009. You will see how the TC behaves.

Default you ran into one of the golden gooses of your TipTronic A6, unfortunately

down to the nitty gritty, this fix if not under warranty = 2000 for new TC, 1000 for install....

Great answer (as opposed to some of the others - enough with the acronyms for crying out loud!), thanks!. Makes perfect sense, if the message was intermittent and said "stuck off", would make sense that one of the valves might be stuck. I cleared the codes and took the car out without pushing it and no codes came back, so hopefully it is fixable before the TC is totally shot. I'll log those readings on my VAG and see what comes up.

Start planning now. This will not magically disappear. You need a torque converter.
