Default Torque curve for the 4.2 (from the 2001 Audi brochure). The graph is small, so these numbers are an

approximation.

1,000 rpm = 220 ft-lb (lb-ft?)
2,000 rpm = 250
3,000 rpm = 295
4,000 rpm = 295
5,000 rpm = 275
6,000 rpm = 245

This graph shows that what Andre argued several months ago is true: the 2.7 does not have "gobs" more low-end torque than the 4.2. Peak torque for the 2.7 is 258 at 1,850 rpm (that's how it's listed; I could have sworn it has a flat peak from 1,850 to 4,000. Maybe my memory is going....)

Default Vs: Torque curve for the S6 (from the 2002 Audi brochure).

Another approximation:

1,000 rpm = 225 ft-lb
2,000 rpm = 255
3,000 rpm = 305
4,000 rpm = 305
5,000 rpm = 285
6,000 rpm = 275
7,000 rpm = 250

(I just had to look!)

Default Picky, picky! Trust me, the thing's too small, and I think my approximations are pretty close. I

owned a 2.7, and liked it a lot, so you ought to be able to trust me :-)

Default 2.7T has at LEAST 258 lb-ft from 1850-4800RPM, but actually peaks much higher...

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/10291/dyno_a6_stage_i.jpg"></center><p>
...as shown from in this APR dyno chart (also posted by "biggly" below) Note how the torque starts quite high, at least 275 lb.ft., then peaks around 285, then stays well above 250 past 4500RPM. It's very noticeable by the seat-of-the-pants, and makes the car feel very fast, but the throttle response is much more immediate in the 4.2.

Chipping the 2.7T however, obviously makes a HUGE difference.

I just find it hard to believe that it has 250ft/lbs at 2k RPMs : )

Default I'm confused, stock peaks and holds at 1850RPMs through 4800 or so, it doesn't peak higher.

Are you saying that the chipped version does, because that does appear to be the case.

Default Ok, now I am really confused how a 2.7t is quicker than 4.2 even in slush box

Even according to Audi's published numbers, 2.7t is 6.6sec compared to 6.7 for 4.2 to 60mph. So the 4.2 is both more hp and torque in low and high rpm why is the car slower??? And where did you get that number anyways????

Typically even if a lower model is quicker, most manufacture would play around with acceleration time to justify the extra cost.

if you put the MTM chip in the torque is even more flat, its a runner
