Default Toying with the idea of selling my A6 (gasp!)

Let me preface this with, I said I'm never get rid of my A6, and I was serious!

The only reason I'm considering this is because I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to an '03 RS6, which is basically my A6 on steroids :-). As I'm sure all of you have noticed, the prices on the C5-RS6 have dropped substantially in the last year. My previous plan was to go Stage 3- on my current A6, which is still on the table, but I need to weigh that against the new $25K price tag for the RS6.

Assuming I find a buyer who wants a non-stock A6, do you think someone would be willing to pay $10K for my car? It currently has 85K miles, and would come with both sets of tires (average wear), and will have the timing belt and water pump 100K service done before I'd consider selling it (and with everything listed in my sig)

Default My thoughts...

...after being in the position of having to sell my A6 (same year as yours, 35K less miles).

It's not even remotely "easy" to find a buyer for these cars at your asking price. People are afraid of the maintenance costs, just in general.

I "wholesaled" my car out for $2K less than I would have liked to get for it. Another A/W user and friend of mine has been trying to sell his for some time. He's come down over $2,500 on asking price, and still no sale.

Now..on to the RS6. While $25K sounds like a "good deal" for the car based on what they originally went for, they are still overpriced. It comes down to the fact that they ARE a 6 year old car, without factory warranty. I'm not talking CPO, just factory 4 year, bumper-to-bumper warranty.

The other issue with the RS6 is it's service interval for the high dollar items. If you're planning on dropping $25K for this car now, I would imagine you would want to hold on to it for a few years. Have you factored in the maint $$ you will need to own the car for that period?

The last item/factor is the outdated body style & technology. $25 Grand is A LOT to pay for just horsepower. IMHO, not worth it. That's the bottom line, because all you are getting is a year newer car, and ~150HP for that money.

Default Great points... Actually the exact points I argued on the PacNW forum when I was asking Stg 3...

...questions about my Tip A6. Which is how this all started... I was on the PacNW forum asking questions about transmissions upgrades for the Tip A6 if I planned to go Stg 3, and one guy said, "Did you know that the RS6 is down to around 25-30K?"

So I agree with you 100%, and to directly answer your question, no, I don't know what I'd be looking at for maintenance on the RS6 over the next 3-5 years (that's the minimum amount of time I'd keep the car). I think I'm going to post exactly that over on the C5-RS6 forum.

Will you ever return to the A6 world, or are you done with Audi's for the time being?

Default Consider the timing belt job, once every 30k miles, as long as you can afford it..

at least you get a new DRC, according to the recall which is in action as we speak. Otherwise i guess its a fine change, and the turbos are less prone to blow, however the payments might go up depending on the trade up.

a stage 3- will do just fine in power imho, but the V8 grumble is a +..

Default although the rs6 is a beast, it's not worth the added maintenance cost(s) involved

in ownership....just go over to the rs6 forum and ask them about the costs to keep the real beast on the road....

Default Keep your car and go stage III

You'll come out ahead financially, and will be faster than an RS6 anyhow.

BTW, I've got brand new stage III EPL fueling for sale. You could put a kit together for 3K and your car would haul *****.

as far as the trans goes, talk to MCH. It's been done plenty of times...
