Default Transfer of Data from old ECM to new. Can VAG-COM do this?

Is it possible to use VAG-COM software to pull data from existing ECM to upload to new ECM? Audi dealer wants to charge 2 hours.

Default Need to replace my ECU, being told that Audi has to program it!

No sure what data exactly. I'm still searching the archives.

Default They enter a 5 digit code and run basic settings...

Basic settings includes a TBA and generating a readiness code.

TBA and recoding the ECU takes about 2-3 minutes TOPS. Readiness code is a bit more involved, but isn't required.

All of this is easily done with your VAG-COM cable.

Default Thanks! I'll do some research on TBA. On another note.....

The reason I'm replacing the ECU is due to a misfire on cylinder 2. Already switched plugs, coil-packs, injectors and wires but problem stays at cylinder 2. Do you think I should try something else first?

Default I really don't know enough about the 2.7s to say anything beyond that

Now if you had an A4, cylinder 2 misfire means you have a bad ICM, and that is a very common failure with our cars. It seems like you too have an ICM, but I don't know if you have the same problems with it as we do. I don't think the ECU is the right route to go just yet, but that's just me.

The ICM or Ignition Control Module (aka power output stage unit, ignition control unit, etc) costs $235.75 MSRP and has a PN of 4A0-905-351-A. As for its location, no idea. A4's sit on top of the airbox and have two wire sets attached to them. Yours should have 6 wires in each set since you have a V6.

Before you pay for a new ECU, do some searching about misfires in cylinder 2 and see if you share that same problem with the A4s.

Good luck!

Default Yeah, plug in your VAG, connect to address word 01 - Engine Electronics

It'll be right there under Coding. Mine for example is 06251 indicating I'm an US-equipped model (06), AWD w/o ESP (2), auto tranny (5), A4 (1).

Default You are the man! Thanks.

I found a bunch of stuff about the ignition control module like you recommended. looks like i'll be trying that before the ECU. Seems about the same mileage everyone else experienced the problem at.
