Default Transmission "Lockout"

Our 2000 A6 2.7T has the tiptronic transmission. The car starts, but won't get into gear. Is it possible that something electronic has locked the transmission out? I'd like to get it running enough to get to a service area and have someone check it. Any leads or common problems would be helpful.

Thanks!

Default Brake switch not making?

Will it let you move the gear selector? to Drive?

Or not?

If not, it sounds like the brake switch.

2nd. Can you hear the solenoid near the gear selector activate when you touch/release the brake?

Default ...or if you cannot hear it, what about the little light by the shift lever...

...it is red when in park, and goes off when your foot is on the brake. If your foot is on the brake and it stays on, your brake switch need to be replaced.

Low cost item ($20-25 at the dealer) and not too hard to replace.

Default i had the same problem. can be numerous things....

you can have a short that blew the tip board
or
the board is bad
or
tcm is bad
ot the magnets is bad

check for shorts from the VAG

if you need to move it you have to trick the tranny why it is in between the N and the gear you want, to prevent it from locking so you can drop it into gear when it is started.

New info:

The car sometimes goes in Reverse and can move on its own power. Forward gears seem to be the problem. So the gear selector moves. I'll listen for the solenoid sound, but I don't remember anything distinctive.

also, was this issue released as a TSB by Audi?

Thanks all

VAG com is the tool to find out your fault in the car.

Default It might be a bad tip circuit board. You can get at it...

...following this post: shift bezel removal and brushed finish. This is for an allroad, but same thing for any C5-platform car.

If you need a replacement, you cannot buy a new board only...it comes as part of the metal bezel shift surround. I might have a spare one in the basement (from a donor shift bezel from the brushed shift bezel mod). Let me know if you need it.
