I'm curious if it is possible to do a transmission swap from another Audi, VW or Porsche and replace a Tiptronic in a 2003 2.7T allroad. I've heard that there are a number of transmissions that will actually fit/work but I'm not sure which ones. I really don't know much about transmissions in cars and how they mate/fit with the engine and other components of the car. So does anyone know what transmissions would work? I'm guessing any manual from an B5 S4 will work since it's basically the same engine, but I'm also curious if there is anything from VW that would fit, like from a VR6 or something.

While I don't have a list off the top of my head, I do have some considerations for you:
The final drive ratio is 4.375:1 on the allroad
The C5 A6 and B5 S4 01E transmissions use a 4.11:1 ratio
The allroad also has a transmission cooler which is not on the C5 A6 or B5 S4.
In order to use the A6 or S4 trans, or any transmission that would work for that matter outside of an 01E from another allroad, you'd also have to swap the matching rear diff.
Hope this helps. Anyone else feel free to chime in
