Default transmission control module (tcm).....

Ok, I'm one of those unfortunate individuals that had water leaked into the passenger side floor, put my car into limp mode and possibly destroying my tcm. Now, I can't scan my car at all...I've tried a Genesis scan tool and a vag-com but it won't communicate. On the Genesis scan tool it stated an error - check connection. With the vag-com it just won't communicate. Could it be that the tcm is fried and won't allow any communication at all through the obdII or could it be something else? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. BTW, the car is a 2001 A6 2.7T.

This is becoming a very common Audi problem. I have a class action lawsuit
letter covering water leakage for my 2001 A6Q. You could take the TCM apart and dry it out, but most likely you will need another transmission control module.

I understand that my tcm is probably fried. My question is, will a fried tcm effect scanning my car? I just can't seem to get any readings at all. Thanks for the quick reply.

Factory radio? ABS light on? Any other issues?

It is possible, but unlikely that a bad TCU would preclude communication with all systems.

I've always been able to dry them out and have them work again.

It does have a factory radio. and yes all my warning lights are on...abs, cel... When it originally happened, I was able to scan the vehicle but now I get nothing. What else could be the culprit?

Right now, the unit is sitting on top of the carpeting in my car. It has been a few days but nothing has changed. I thought that it could possibly dry itself out and come back to normal..wishful thinking. How does one dry this thing out? Do I take it apart? Do I throw it in the oven?

"The unit" being the whole box? Yeah, you need to take the board out.

Does VAG-COM talk to the car with the TCU unplugged?

Finally got the vag-com to communicate. Turns out that there was a problem with the fuses. Turns out the main culprit is the tcm...I'm going to try to take it apart and dry it up but I doubt that will work. Looks like I'll be needing a new (used) one. Any suggestions as to where I can get one? Thanks 4driver4 for your help.
