Default It's similar to chipping, but I think less controversial. Changing the transmission's mode...

...should not unduly alter the stress on the transmission. It's possible that the dealer may re-set your computer when you visit.

Following the "catch-me-if-you-can" mentality, you can always set the computer to stock values before you go for service, and re-set it when you get it back.

Default Great work! So how long will it be before some entreprenuer markets a simple...

..black box that will contain a customer's preferred code changes (e.g. forced sport mode, first gear to the redline) that overrides the stock settings (and resets to stock if necessary)? I know that GM tuners already do this. Granted, there are lot more GMs on the roads than Audis.

Default New challenge --

I'm impressed with anyone who's willing to fool around this way, because I'd be too scared that I'd screw something up (permanently) to try it.

So here's what would really be cool: figure out how to reset the downshift speeds (or revs) in Tip mode. (Personally, I'd set 'em all to zero. I do like the auto shift to 1st at full stop, but all the other rolling downshifts are just a pain.) HPH

Default Thanks for the work! I hate the "lazy" shifting of the Tip in auto mode

I would add or modify my trans cpu when the experiment is done and there is a "black box" or other way to mod and/or switch the coding. I am so tired of the "lazy" shifting of the transmission. I think it was coded for emmissions and not for sport!

Great job! This is why I spend time here!

Time for a Vag tool for me. Oh wait, I'm getting an '02 soon. So probably won't need this tweak. Damn - where were you 2 years ago when I really could have used this?

Default A couple of questions...

First, great job. I seriously doubt these settings will cause any problems with the tip.

1. If the "2" bit is set alone (allowing 1st gear to work), will sport mode "accumulate" the same as the stock setting? That is, will more agressive driving still make the tip more sporty?

2. How does setting the "2" bit affect downshifts? Can you get into 1st without a near stop (or stomping on the gas)?

3. When setting the "1" bit (sport mode), is it just like the progressive sport mode we all know about? I read earlier posts that it starts you at a value of 50, but is there any other difference?

FYI. The manual implies there are multiple sport modes that happen depending on driver behavior. Could those extra bits force each sport mode?

Thanks,
...bill
