Default Transmission help please

Just today I was accelerating and the car went to like 3500 rpms and then jumped into gear. Does that mean my transmission is gone or is it something that can be fixed without getting a new transmission. 2002 A6 4.2 with 100k.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

do

same **** is happening to me very rarely...no codes are present other than a secondary air inj bank 1 and 2 and intermittant precat pass o2 sensor. I check it every couple of days to see if the tranny is kicking a code.

I'm getting my oil and filter changed tom on my tranny and will post up here whether it fixed the slight slipping or not, I'm really hoping it will, pray for me lol
