transmission plug leaking on catalytic converter - $450 - fair repair price?
Hey guys,
I have had smoke coming out from underneath the hood for some time. Turns out there's a "plug in the transmission leaking fluid onto the catalytic converter", causing the smoke.
So--the dealer wants $450 to fix it. He said they'd have to drop the exhaust to get to it, and something about moving the wiring harness out of the way. I'm a little leary since he quoted $120 (labor only) to change plug wires and I did it in the parking lot of autozone in 10 mintues. Having just rebuilt the engine in my TR6, I'm capable of just about any repair, but my time is pretty limited so I'm tempted to have him do it.
Does $450 seem like a fair price? Does anyone else know what plug he's talking about and can you confirm it's hard to get to? I'd hate myself if I paid that and found out it could be done in 15 minutes myself!
Thanks!

dealer may want to change trans pan
and do trans service at the same time, filter, gasket, plus a bundle for the synthetic 'lifetime' ATF.
Sooooo, $450 may well be reasonable.
Need to clarify ezzakly what the dealer/tech wants to do, add up the prices, and see how much you want to do.

Wish I could, but I need to give a yae/nae at this point, suppose I could...
pick it up and bring it back later if needed, though he'll definitely charge a diagnostic fee, which he wouldn't if I have him do the repair now. Wish I had more info.
Is there a common plug that leaks?

Update: says it's the "valve body wire harness plug" on trans. Anyone replace that?
Apparently it's where the wire harness goes into the bottom of transmission.

just wanted to follow up... appears to be the wireharness plug that
goes into the front, left side, near the bottom of the transmission. I still don't know why it's so expensive to fix. Also, anyone change the transmission fluid yourself and is it a pain?
