Default Transmission Problem

I have a 92100CS with Auto I had problems with the shifting. Somtimes it starts andstays in 3rd and other times it shifts but the shifts are delayed. Any one have any experience with theirs that might help. Searched the archives but not a lot of solutions.

Wrong forum. Try the pre-98 A6/100 forum and give the Misc forum a shot.

Default Re: It's third, I read it right out of my manual....back when I was having tranny problems!!

This is straight from Bentley...

****
Transmission Control Module (TCM) back-up mode

If certain malfunctions occur while driving, the transmission continues to operate, but switches to a "back-up" mode. If the malfunction occurs in a forward gear, the back-up mode selects 3rd gear. The vehicle can also be operated in transmission ranges "1," "2," "3" and "R" in the back-up mode.

When a malfunction triggers the switch to back-up mode, the transmission operates in that mode for as long as the ignition remains switched on.

During subsequent operation of the vehicle, if the selector lever is in position "D," "3" or "2" and the malfunction occurs again, 2nd or 3rd gear will remain hydraulically activated until the malfunction is repaired.

When in "limp home" mode the cruise will no longer function as well!!

HTH!!
