I surfed the Audi technical bulletin yesterday and
noticed the following problem with 2000 A6 4.2:
"Transmission in Limp Mode, Diagnostic Trouble
Code (DTC) 17114 Stored in DTC Memory."
Basically, this problem will prevent the auto
transmission from shifting. Isn't this a really
serious problem? I wonder if anyone has heard of
this problem or experienced it on their 4.2?
According to the bulletin, this problem could
affect the 4.2 with VIN from 4B_YN019790 to
4B_YN078065. Please follow this link for more
detailed information:

I alos have a question about the 17' wheels
and the 255/40 tires. They are very nice but
I think they are a little too aggresive for my
driving style. Also, I heard that they could get
slippery in the winter. Do you guys think it is
possible to get the dealer to change them
back to the standard rims and tires? The 4.2
I have is leased and I understand any alterations
to the car are not allowed. I am just exploring
the possibilities here. Any advice would be
greatly appreciated.<p>Hongtao Chen

to be driven in one gear for a short period of time until you get the car serviced. I had this happen to me in a BMW. The cpu had some faulty code that kept telling the engine the trans had a problem and vice versa. Not a very serious problem, but certainly one that need to be immediately addressed if it occurs.

on our 4.2L A6 quattro. We had about 6 inches of snow in washington dc (ok, silver spring/olney) and the stock quattro worked BETTER than either of the two volvos or my saab 900, all had snow tires.<p>John.Binford@DTRA.MIL

Thank you for your response. Now, I feel a lot more confident in the SP9000 tires. They do look awesome around the 17' pie-plate rims, don't you think? :-)<p>Hongtao Chen
