Default Tried to find in "Search", but couldn't find something that would help. Oxygen Sensor Question..>

My Check Engine came a while ago. Had a "good" guy check it VIA VAG. It showed that the Oxygen Sensor didn't like something. I understand that the oxygen sensor is an Emission related thing, but what does it exactly do? Anyways, also i read something about some "CEL" any knowledge what that is? The funny thing is that the Check Engine turned off after i started the car for two times. Before i Did bring it to check on VAG... It sais its the two front ones, and my MPG is terrible now!.. Guess because of the sensors...
Also, should i change 1 sensor, or two front ones at the time?

TIA

Default I would do all four primary and secondary. It'll probably help you MPG.

You ecu checks for fauls with a routine. So it must have not seen the same error and that is why CEL went off, but it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them.

How many miles on your car?<ul><li><a href="http://www.vastperformance.com">VAST</a></li></ul>

Default Oxygen sensors detect the quantity of oxygen, unspent fuel and carbon monoxide in the exhaust, they

tell the ecu to adjust the quantity of fuel that the vehicle injects to the engine...it's more complicated than that but that's the basics...

Default It's highly unlikely that both OXS units failed at the same time.

Something else is going on to cause the car to run rich. Is it possible that you have a boost leak? I bet the code you got was "out of range".

Default Rear sensors have nothing to do with driveability.

All they do is measure and report on cat effiency.
