Default Trying to Decide...2.7T Auto or Manual..

I am going to be moving to Stamford, CT in January. More specifically, the North Stamford area in the woods about 8 miles north of town. Anyhoo, I am trying to decide whether to buy a 2.7T Auto or manual tranny based on the traffic situation. I am not familiar with the Stamford area and do not like to sit in traffic with a manual tranny. I will make periodic trips to Manhattan but not every day or even every week.

I already own a TT 225 6-speed, so I can row my own with another car. I also need to figure a babyseat in the back of the A6 as a possiblity, and am not familiar with the realities of how that mixes with a manual tranny. Anyone in the Stamford area like driving a manual?

Default Get a tip, if you already have your manual car....

the tip is not bad, pretty good for an automatic actually. I don't miss my manual cars at all... nice with the kids, one less thing to think about.

Default manual is a different beast. if you can find one with sport pkg, Id get the 6spd. however,

seeing that you have a manual already, auto would be more suitable.

Default thanks guys

I've been mulling it over in my mind for awhile now. I guess a Tip is in my future..as far as the 4.2, they get worse mileage and they are much more expensive. I would rather keep my options open on modding possibilities that a 2.7T allows.

Way to go! I do enjoy the "modability" of the 2.7.

Default There is PLENTY of traffic in the Stamford area, not just Manhattan. Since you already

have a 'fun' car with 6-speed, and don't want to have to deal with a manual in traffic, I think the Tip would be the way to go.

Traffic was the reason I finally went to a slushbox when I got my A6; for the most part I've been happy with my decision. If I had a 'fun car' to use from time to time I'd be 100% happy withmy decision.

Default Same story here I'm selly my TT for an A6 and

I've driven both recently with chips and without. Stock they seemed pretty close to me except the 6 speed seemed to take off from a stop better and there wasn't the lag when shifting. I drove a 6 spd with a GIAC X chip and an auto with an APR 93 oct chip and GIAC tip chip. Again from a stop the 6spd was a little quicker but not much and over all the auto seemed to pull better once moving and the tip chip really made a big difference. Since I'm looking for a daily driver I'm leaning toward the Auto and am thinking of picking up a 2 seater RWD maunal for the weekends.

6-speeds are tough to find...
