It's not so much that I think that it is something else. Just trying to eliminate all the other possibilities.
I just read the tech article about replacing the turn signal stalk and he originally thought that the hazard relay switch was the problem. Only to have it replaced and the problem still existed.

multiple responses from various seasoned C5A6 veterans and they're all in agreement on this. I'd go with their collective wisdom if I were you!

If the problem persists, park the old relay in the glove box for a spare and change the signal stalk.
It could be either, but history has shown a much higher failure rate on the relay.
