Two unrelated but painfully similar displays of auto-ignorance.
1. Old friend and co-worker makes reference to "the guy who drives that Passat wagon." The Passat he refers to is an Allroad! So, apparently, a well educated, perceptive guy has lived the last 5 years unable to distinguish between a Passat and an Allroad. Amazing.
2. Driving with a different old friend, and I point out a pristine early-60s Porsche 356. His comment, "Isn't that a Karman Ghia?"
This is why the world is full of Camrys, Accords, Tauruses and Malibus.

My neighbor bought a Ford Explorer.
She came home and was all excited, I was outside and she invited me over to look at the truck. I come over and look it over and I make the usual polite comments: "Nice leather"..."oh it has navigation"..." and a V8 too" to which she says...
"It's a v8? What is navigation? I just told them I wanted a siler one and they said they only had one left..."
Can you imagine the grin on the sales guy when she walks in and says she wants an Explorer in silver? "Yes mam, we only have one left WITH EVERY POSSIBLE OPTION... "

That, in car sales, is known as having an "Up with a mattress on their back"
The "up" referring to the customer. The mattress referring to their willingness to just roll over and get F-you-know-what-d.
Most salespeople drool and tell many a tall tale about those. I've encountered a few, and let me tell you, it is incredibly hard to take the high road, knowing how easy it would be.......

The Porsche vs. Karmann is pretty funny
because they ain't really all that different, Por-shuh aficionados to the contrary.
