Default Uh oh... I poured "green coolant" in my A6 the other day!!! Am I DOOMED???

Hi all,

I'm brand new to this board and a first time Audi owner. I bought a '99 A6 2.8 Quattro with 39K miles 2 weeks ago and last week, noticed the coolant light flashing on my dashboard. I checked the manual and it said this was an indication of low coolant so I checked and there was none visible in the reservoir. Being new to Audis, I went to Kragen and bought some 50/50 green stuff and topped it off. Several days later, indicator light comes on again... so I top it off again. Today, I was searching the past threads and found that the green stuff is not to be put into these cars.

I have several questions about this.

1. I bought 2 gallons of Audi G12 Coolant today and plan to flush the green stuff out this weekend. But... what are the consequences of driving 1 1/2 weeks with the green stuff in the cooling system?

2. I do smell the sweet burning scent when I get out of the car after driving but never find any puddles in the driveway. However, I have noticed a liquid puddle underneath my car after getting off work on 3 different occasions... but upon touching it, the liquid was clear (not greenish nor pinkish) and had no smell to it. Where's all the coolant going???

Please help in new fellow Audi owner... THANKS!!!

Default I have seen it before. The mix of red and green stuff will make a lot of foam.

You will need to go to the place with power flushing system (like Autozone) and ask them to flush it really well. Fill with the red coolant. It should be fine after this.
Just replacing coolant or manually flushing it does not help much - in a week you will se the foam again. You need a place with flushing system. It will cost you ~50$.

If you will keep green coolant for long, your insides will corode.

Default You should only use Pentosin coolants in your Audi (not available at Kragen's/Schuck's, etc)....

If you do a very thorough flush of the system, and refill w/ the Audi OEM coolant and distilled water, you probably haven't done any significant damage to the system. But you first need to locate the source of the leak before installing the OEM coolant.
