Default Under car now--why grease at driveshaft/diff?

I'm doing the pinion seal on the read differential now. When I removed the driveshaft, the rear of it and the front area on the diff are coated with like a moly grease. This doesn't seem to be the seepage--it's pretty thick. Should this be there? Should I replace it? The Bentley's doesn't mention it. Thanks!
