I have updated my post on the Escort 8500 radar detector hardwire I recently did.
For those interested in attempting to duplicate this work, I now include a wiring schematic and wiring/installation notes.

...almost...
Very clean install. It was great to see it 1st hand the other day. I'll have to revisit my hardwire install and make a few improvements

I wonder if you could install TWO banks of buttons -- the second in the place of the cupholder you've already scavenged (you might even be able to sell that). With all the mods YOU have, I'm sure you could come up with uses for a couple of sunshade switches and FUNK buttons!
P.S. Thanks for the kind words. Great seeing you the other day. Thanks again for lunch. Was fun hanging with you and BD Jr.

I wonder if I can use the switch from the sunshade button and the cap from another button (like the FUNK button) on top to have a momentary switch on the right side of the 3-button row.
If so, then all I have to do is to find a place for the LED (I am thinking the steering column trim just below the dash (upsdie-down U) for the warning light. Thoughts????

I think that would be a great route to go. The big "if" is the whole button cover swap. If you can put a different (i.e., right sided) button cover on the sunshade switch, you'll be in business. If you're short on button space, I'd even entertain moving the ESP button to an indiscrete place (under dash?). I never use mine and when I do, it has the in-cluster indicator to tell me it's off.
Good thinking.
