Upper control arm pinch bolt...won't budge

LOL just hit with an air hammer like you are the one to talk about that RE;jimmy's post
One side always seems to be easy, like a spider luring you into a trap. I did my CV boots a year ago and when I did the spring shock thing last month the passenger side would not move. I think I even heard it laugh at one point

Re: I'd remove the whole upright assembly before proceeding
Well after liberal heating with a MAP gas torch I got it 1/2 way out.
Then my air hammer bit was too short.
I'm not too much worried about heating the piece, MAP gas isn't going to get it hot enough to do damage.
I won't drill while on the car. My guess is my 14.99 cheapo Home Depot air hammer is holding me back.
I'm off to TSC to pick up a new 60 gallon compressor and a better air hammer.
I'm honestly not crazy about pulling the entire suspension apart. I got it to move a good amount before I snapped another piece off and it seems tweaked a bit. My guess is it'll go back the other direction and maybe I can cut it off at its binding point.
If I had more time I would take it apart and I'll probably do that anyways next weekend. I have zero room to work on that side of the car. I have a hoist in the garage and the passenger side is on the wall side. The way I had to position the A6 I'm right on the steps going into the house. Any other car I've worked on has longer spacing between the lift points and I'm always off that step.
Its gettimg there and you are right about no room. There is no articulation at all even with the tie rod disconnected.

Re: Most of us have been there done that. Persistance.
Its done...and the car is quiet again.
Started at 8am...went to TCS for the new compressor. Went home and got it 1/4 way out.
Breakfast...went back at it and once I got to a certain point the stock I was using to push it out with was bending in the bore. Sent the wife to get a Map/O2 torch, while she was gone I gave it one more push and it came out.
That was about 1:30pm. Put it back together and took it for a test drive.
Only issue was I was not paying attention and put the strut tower washer in the wrong spot so I pulled a few threads. Everything else snugged up good but I'll replace the upper strut plate when I swap out the springs/shocks.
Next time I'll be prepared. I used hardware store Grade 8 bolts which fit nearly perfect but I'll swap them out for dealer bolts when I take it back apart.

When I changed mine out I went throught hell It started with PB then
impact wrench, then a chizzle hammer thing. Nothing worked. I had to drill it out. starting small and getting bigger. broke about 4 drill bits. I used tons of antiseaze on the new one.
