urgent help needed! My car is stuck in Park!
Dear Experts,
Please help!
I have a 2001 Audi A6 Avant and My car suddenly will not shift out of Park! I stepped on the brake real hard but its like the car doesn't know it and won't let me shift out of park!
I need to move the car in 8 hrs or else I will get a ticket. Please tell me how I can over ride the brake-lock mechanism so I can shift the transmission.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Sometimes the shifter button gets stuck.
Does it freely depress and spring back out? If not, try snapping your thumb off the edge of the button to get the spring to release.
Tap or thump the top of the shifter a couple of times. This can mechanically unstick it. If it moved out of Park but didn't actually shift, then I would look for electric faults, but it sounds mechanical.
Is the car parked on an incline? Did you possibly put it into Park and take your foot off the brake before pulling up the parking brake? If so, this can lock up the torque converter. Sometimes pulling harder on the shifter will force it into gear, but that's obviously hard on the equipment. The right way to do it is to take the pressure off by getting someone to lean in and push the car slightly in the opposite direction while you put it in gear.

Re: If the little light next to the shifter stays red when you depress the brake, you need...
HI,
Yes, the little light next to the shifter stays red even after I step on the brake.
Can you please tell me where is the brake switch located? So I can just go buy this part from the Audi parts Dept and replace it myself?
Is there anyway I can manually override the brake switch so I can drive my car?

Yup, found it!
"nene" (RS6 owner) wrote up a nice article on installation of the RS6+ pedals. This article insludes steps on removing the brake light switch that is most likely the culprit for your problem.
The part number (I believe) is 3B0-945-511, but you should confirm with your friends in the parts department.
Here is a link to nene's article, with pictures. You will need to remove the lower dash panel (Steps 1-3) and then go to Step 6.

nene's RS6+ pedal installation
