Default V8 oil filter question

In my earlier post about my dealer service, I had requested to have oil filter changed as part of the leaky oil pan gasket repair / oil change. Although its on the work order, there is no part listed on my bill. Also, it looks like the same Mann 735/2 filter is still on there, and not an Audi OEM one. That filter was put on with my oil change back in June, and amazingly, I've only put ~1700 miles on the car since then. I've noticed on some of the newer V6 filters the "Long Life" stamping on the filter saying they're good for 2 years / 20k miles. No such marking on the V8 filter. Since a lot of my driving is shorter trips, I've been changing my oil and filter every 6 mos regardless of mileage (I'm always well under 5k in 6 mos), so this filter would be on the car about a year if I leave it until June.

Looking at the Audi maintenance schedule for 2000, they recommend changing the filter every other oil change (i.e. 16k miles between filters). That would lead me to believe the V8 filters are "Long Life." Anyone see a problem of leaving the filter on there another 6 mos (and probably ~3k)?

Default

WhaddaIknow, but it's a BIG can with a 10,000 mi change interval, so a year and 6000 seems fine.

Default leave it..this filter has only 1700 miles on it.

you could just change it when you do the next oil change.

I would also have your our oil analyzed at your next oil change. This way you will know how the filter and the engine are doing.

I run synth and change about 5000-7500.<ul><li><a href="http://www.blackstone-labs.com/">click</a></li></ul>

Default I've always wanted to do an oil analysis...

And I probably will do so with my next change. I've been changing the oil and filter every 6 mos due to the my short driving trips and the aftermarket warranty. I'm not sure how the warranty company would look at an engine repair if the oil was in the car for a year.
