Default VERY hot engine...is this normal????

Last couple of days I've noticed that my engine temp gauge has been going well past the half way mark and towards the H(ot). This is also affecting the temp reading in the car...it was telling me it was 110 when the temp outside was really 92.

When I started highway driving the temp went down as the engine was being cooled off by the wind, but when I parked the motor fan stayed on for 15mins and sounded like an airplane!

I have never seen this before in the 3yrs that I've had this car. Is this normal? Should I be concerned that the engine is getting this hot?

TIA,
DJ

Default BE concerned....pack your engine in ice and elevate all four corners. :=p (edit)

My temp needle does not cross the center mark, though, so maybe it should be checked out.

Really, there's not a lot you can do about it if it's hot out. Temp yesterday 116* when I started my parked A6. My aux fan has been doing the same thing the past few days, but then again, the same thing has happened with every other Audi I've ever owned.

It's just strange that I've never noticed this before in weather even hotter than this...

Default I would maybe get your radiator fluid checked. My car even in 100+ heat and city driving has

never gone across the "center" of the temp gauge. My oil temp is another story of course.

Audi's do have radiator fluid right??

No way this is normal. In 100 degrees in Texas mine never exceeds 1/2 mark. Get it checked.

did this happen after u had just driven and shut the car off and turned it back on after like 10 minutes?

if so...its probably heat soak bc the engine runs hot and when u shut it off, all the heat is still there with no cooling...hence the higher temps.

Default Too many variables...except

car is 3 years old. Have the dealer check the cooling system from top to bottom.

Default Your fan control module has failed and probably the

first auxillary fan as well.

It gets hot because the aux fan isn't
working, the secondary aux fan won't
shut off because the fan controller
is dead.

Actually noticed it during rush hour driving. When I'm on the highway the airflow seems to keep the temp right in the center of the needle. When i get into any sort of stop and go driving the temp starts to rise.

Default Called dealer today - thanks for all the opinions...they are keeeping the car over the weekend

They told me to bring it in today, so they could check the problem. They actually didn't have time to look at it today so they gave me a rental car (on them) for the weekend and will take a look at the car on monday to diagnose the problem. Thanks to the great people on this board again for all your help...and kudos to Cherry Hill Imports (NJ), for good service so far!

Cheers,
DJ
