Default Volvo moving onto our turf (awd)

From Autoweek:

S60: A sporty variant will be added to the S60 line next year. The sedan will be based on the awd Performance Concept Car unveiled at the Paris auto show last September. The vehicle featured a 300-hp, 2.4-liter turbo engine. The production car may be labeled the S60R, based on the "R" designation used for performance-oriented Volvos in the past. To pave the way, the regular S60 gets optional awd this year. U.S. sales begin late this month.

Default If it's anything like the V70R AWD...

I wouldn't be too impressed. My brother's wife has one, and although it's nice car, it's not even close to an Audi. The AWD system doesn't seem nearly as transparent as ours (nor is it as sophisticated, from what I hear). Plus, the 5 cylinder turbo engine has horrible lag compared to the 2.7t.

It'll be interesting what the magazines say. They haven't been to impressed with the current (front drive) S60.

Default Drove the S60 2.4 for a week...

Was not impressed in any way. I honestly tried to find something to like about the car. The only thing that I could say good about the car is it is a decent compromise in size. The interior room is OK enough for a small family as the back seat room is a little better than the current A4.

I think it's awful good lookin' too. But 300hp? 2.4L? Sounds like a time bomb.

Default That car is fast, but I enjoyed the looks and performance of my

'98 C70. The V70R has the same setup we have, almost. Audi sold the Torsen to them but the version that was from almost 20 years ago.

Default I drove these around the parking lot at Hollywood Park

at a Volvo driving event. I was impressed. Especially because beforehand I had zero interest in Volvos.

The trainers/babysitters really wailed on these cars. I guess they go through a ton of tires, but I wonder what they do with the cars afterwards? Sure wouldn't want to get sold one as an "executive demo".

Default Bend over, boys. Volvo's comin' to town.

This car will use an AWD system that Audi already uses. And it will house an engine that has already proven itself capable of reliably squeezing 260 hp out of 2.3l. The engine will be 300+ hp, and it will actually be 2.5l.

Suck it up.

Default Jaguar is doing the same...

with their new X-type, which will have AWD. This car is supposed to compete with the A4 and 3 series Bimmer.
