They look beautiful? Also maybe less unsprung weight... but probably not a huge deal compared to good quality rotors...

It is about weight savings. Audi says the wave rotor is around 2 lbs lighter. Too bad that doesn't translate to less expensive replacement!

You're also seeing the brake rotor design I think I first saw on the C5 RS6…the aluminum hat and the spokes leading to the the brake swept surface itself.

I don't believe the wave rotor/brake swept surface itself saves 2 lbs per rotor…the aluminum hat and the spokes might in the sense that the entire rotor assembly is lighter.

Do a short volume analysis and two lbs of steel is 32oz/4.5oz/in^^3 or about 7 in^^3.

I can't see 7 cubic inches of metal removed in those iddy biddy waves….perhaps 2 lbs of metal saving on all four rotors….

one other thing…if it's so good on the outer edge, why not offset the wave and do it on the inner edge?

Is this the future? (Motorcycle wave brake rotor with inner did. waved as well as outer)

Yes, maybe. But weight saved on brake rotors also means less mass to absorb heat…there's a certain advantage to more massive brake rotors; they take longer to overheat and maintain temperature longer. For race use perhaps rapid heat to working/stable temperature correlates with higher temp pads and better heat rejection, for the street, who knows. For certain less metal in the rotor leads to accelerated/more rapid rotor wear…and @#%@# audi wear limit is only 1mm per side 2mm total anyway!

ok I gotchu. Well I found out that Brembo manufactures them for Audi, its only a matter of time before Brembo starts peddling it themselves if the trend takes off & other aftermarket parts companies start selling replicas, as of now I found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-S4-RS4-...-/301077830916

I agree with SloopJohn about the fact that they created big brake kits for a reason. Street-wise the wave contour disc look good and serve the purpose of next-gen OEM sport brakes hence the reason they equipped the RS with them, but track-wise I can see a lot of the wave contour disc ending up on ebay as ppl swap them out for big brake kits.

Hopefully Audi will release some detailed press on the whole design so we'll know.
