Default Thanks Steve! Really great info!

I should be picking up my Melange/Melange 2.7T on Fri., and was starting to think about which wax/polish to go with. Based on this, I'm going to order up some Zaino Z2. Sounds like it provides best all around results!

Default Re: Wax Test, some comments...

I agree the color makes a huge difference.

The turtle wax zymol is dreck. Nothing at all like any of the rest of the product line. The real stuff does harden like concrete, and can be a bear to apply.

You didn't mention that the Meguiar's is loaded with silicone. You can feel the static when you apply it. My Brilliant black was a charged dust magnet with either Meguiar's, looked bad in a couple of hours. Saved the cans for the rims.

Your not kidding that Mothers Wax is hard to remove. It took me over 4 hours to remove all of the wax the last time. I eventually found out the trick. Re-wax the area that is hard to remove. It comes right up. I've been looking for a better wax than Mothers but didn't want to spend the money for Zymol. I'm going to try out Zaino Bros. and see how their wax does.

Do you know if they have anything for Rims to deter the buildup of brake dust?

BTW, I'm including the link to their site.
Nice Job Steve

Default Thanks for a real service to the group!

Did you try any of the Z6 that Sal recommends? I just got some Zaino products to try because of the group's comments, and I don't think I've waxed a car in about 20 years.

Default RE: Z6 Effectiveness

I wasn't very excited about the Z6. On my car, it seemed to leave a residue that looked like water spotting. It eventually came off, but it took quite a bit of buffing. It would have been easier just to apply another coat of Z2. The problem was probably that I was using too much of it, but I couldn't get any less to come out of the spray bottle.
Steve

Default Re: Waxing the wheels

I used Zaino Z2 on the normal A6 2.7T wheels before I bought new wheels, and it seemed to reduce brake dust a little. On the Zender wheels, the Zaino doesn't seem to repel brake dust at all.
Steve

Default Re: Silicone in Meguiar's

Meguiar's might be a dust magnet, I really can't tell -- (a) I'm in Seattle, and it's not very dusty (most of my test was during our rainy season -- September 1 through August 15 :-), (b) I'm sure the melange doesn't show the dust anywhere near as much as black does.
Steve
