coming from the engine. It appears at idle and does increase in frequency when the accelirator is pushed. Can not hear it while driving. The dealer said they occasionaly have heard it from this engine but have never had it resolve or worsen. At first the suspected the diverter valves but that diagreement faded quickly. They said lets monitor it again in a few months. Does anyone else hear the tapping noise and for those with 2 cents, should I contact AOA or get a second opinion first. I HATE NOISES!

Default Try another dealer?

if they are recommending that you wait and see, then you will be out of warranty! Hey, that rhymes!

Default The trick here is to make sure you get it in writing that this ticking has been

reported beore the 50k warranty period ran out.... Audi is famous for saying ' lets check it out in a few months only to have them then say.. "sorry, but the warranty for this has expired"

Simply, you should tell your SM that this noise has not been there until recently and therefore it is indicative of a an impending problem that made itself known while the car was under warranty. You simply want the noise to go away like it used to be and its their dime

Default Have you been using VW 502.00-approved engine oil?

Incorrect or worn-out engine oil can cause noisy engines.

Dealers don't usually shy away from warranty work - providing they know how to fix it?

I described it as a slight ticking sound to Flow Audi here in Winston-Salem, NC. - more audible on the left side of the engine. The Service writer said that sound was not unusual (they had heard it before)and that it was probably a noisy injector but I am concerned that it might be something under the timing cover. I should note that my car is a 2001 A6 2.7T Tip./stock in every detail with 54,000 miles and I would like to be assured of it's reliability before I proceed with mods. I have also begun to hear a slight clunk when shifting quickly into reverse and wonder if the tranny needs attention.
