I have seen an A6 with a medium dark gray that the dealer called black and another one with a really dark black that the dealer didn''t know what to call..
What is the darkest black? and with what interior can it come?

Melange, Vanilla/Satin Black, Satin Black, Maroon, Tungsten Gray.
All are available except the vanilla/blue.
The Vanilla/Black and Maroon may be quite difficult to find in an '01 since they are all made already. '02 colors are not final (at least not released, yet).

The Brilliant Black is the darkest. Ebony Pearl is a metallic paint and Brilliant Black is a pure black gloss. For Brilliant Black you can get Ambiente (Melange and Vanilla), Ambition (Maroon and Satin Black), and Advance (tungsten) interiors.

There is also a Chasmere Gray paint and it varies in color depending on the lighting.

Satin black is the only all black interior. Tungsten has grey leather.

Actually, Satin Black is the only dark gray interior (see post & pics ~16 topics down).

The exterior colors and the interior levels and their leather colors. I have a very early 2001 Brilliant Black 2.7T with the Onyx interior. It has black leather, tungsten accents and dark wood. Shortly after the 2001 was introduced they changed the name to Black Satin.
