What are the significant differences between the 2000 A6 4.2 and the 2002 A6 4.2? Does the 2002 4.2 handle better? Is it faster? Is it more solid and quiet? My lease is coming up and I was wondering if it worth considering a 2002 A6 4.2.

One of the main differences is exposed twin pipes in rear valence on '02. Very cool.

Default The Tip transmision software is suposed to be better. A little more agressive.

If you have the sport version there will not be a lot of difference.

Default Audiworld had a good article about the 2002 upgrades.

Go to the homepage and check the news archives. I think it was last May or June.

I just ordered an '02 to replace my '01. I find the '02 improvements very desirable. The power is the same. I expect the '02 to be more solid and quiet. The body was stiffened and glass thickened. Audi claims a 2 db interior noise reduction. It's been reported here that '02 handling is tighter. Significantly lower unsprung weight and improved suspension. I drove a non-sport '02 4.2. It rode much better than and handled nearly as well as my '01 sport.

Default Own a 2002 and based on what folks say in this forum...

it's pretty clear the suspension is firmer and more controlled (both standard and sport) and the car is quieter. 2002 cars have more aggressive tires as standard with the Sport suspension package than 2000 cars. Pretty sure the brakes are upgraded, too. The Sport mode for the automatic is very useful and didn't exist in 2000 car. Then there's the big stuff, like the hooks for grocery bags in the trunk and, or course, different colors! Bose stereo is different and I guess it's a matter of debate whether it's really better or just different. I think the 6-disc internal CD changer is something not offered in the 2000 car with the Bose, but I could be mistaken on that.

Default 1) Yes. 2) Probably not. 3) Yes. If you're happy with your '00, then you'll absolutely love an

'02; if you're not happy with the '00, then the 02 improvements stand a significant chance of addressing whatever your concerns are.
