What happens if you put the car in Reverse while driving 20mph? (Auto Trans)
No I didn't put my car in reverse while driving, but Im wondering, lets say you are driving, doing around 30-40mph and want to put the car in Neutral, but slip it in reverse accidentatly. Is there a failsafe for this? will the car shut off? etc..

Why don't you try it and let us know
j/k, I don't have a tip but the 6 speed will not allow me to pop into reverse when car is going forward unless its at parking lot speed even then it takes a huge effort to do so. So I would imagine a tip tranny would have a fool prove safey

You are ripped from the driver's seat and made to spread eagle on the ground while you're cuffed and led away.
You're then placed in the back of the cruiser until such time as you're able to remember how to operate a motor vehicle.

My dad did this when he was a kid in his Impala with a 2spd powerglide
He was playing around and meant to go from 1 to D and slipped it into R. The rear wheels locked up (doing about 35) and smoke poured out. He got it back to D and took off. Didn't do any damage luckily.
All the kids at school thought he was the $hit for being able to smoke the tires off into 2nd.

Friend did it at 60 mph in '86 5000...
Downshifted to pass, it over-revved so he grabbed it to upshift and it went right past neutral and bounced off reverse. Burnt the fluid, slipped like mad. Still ran, just not well. Made the mistake of believing a clown who said he could fix it. It always slipped after the repair going into 3rd - just a 3 speed. Reverse gave out 10 months later and he junked it. Sad.

My first car was a '67 Impala convertible with that 2 spd. "slushbox"....loved that car.
What a ride! Great bench seat in front for getting close with your girl at the drive-in movies!
