Default What if its not the Coil

I have a vibration and a misfire on Cyl 1. We changed the coil on Cyl 1. Now its still vibrating and throwing a generic misfirecode. The guy that looked at it(a mechanic but not an audi guy) thinks its the negative conection below or before the coil. He called it the coil driver is bad/not working. All the other coils have power just not Cyl 1.

We also changed the plugs as the car as 140k on it.

Make sure it's not a second bad coil (unlikely, but possible) by swapping in a working coil off another cylinder. If it's the coil, the problem will follow the coil. If the problem stays with #1, then it could be elsewhere in the ignition system. I've not messed with ignition so I'll leave it to others to try and help further.

Try swapping coils, if coil is not the problem. I bet your ICM is fried. That happened to me, I bought a new ICM and problem solved. The ICMs are on top of your airbox at least that is for the 2.7T. Good luck.

You can easily test the ICM by swapping the wiring between the two units. If the misfire moves to another cylinder the ICM is tost. Cost around $75 or so new.

Thanks. I know he did swap out coils and the new coil was not the problem. The problem stayed with Cyl 1. I will have him check out the ICM.

Just curious where are you guys buying parts? Coils were more expensive I have seen them referenced elsewhere on this sight?

It stands for Power Output Stage.

It looks like there is 2 Power Output Stages(ICM) on the air box? Is it one unit or 2?

Where is a good place to buy the part. I am getting quaotes significantly higher than quoted on here.

Two POS units, 3 channels each.

First step is to verify that problem and diagnose. How about swapping the two units and see if the skip moves?

I will ask him, not sure if he will have time. He wanted me to buy the ICM and bring it to him to install. He is a mechanic friend and he is swamped with money jobs. What else besides the ICM do you think it could be.
