Default what kind of grease is used with CV boots?

so in the process of changing control arms (oh by the way, FVCK YOU PINCH BOLT!!!!) i noticed that one CV boot is torn... i decided id leave the car on jack stands over night and pick up a CV boot today so i didnt have to take that apart again in a week to replace the boot...

anyway, im guessing i can get the boot at the *gasp* dealer? or maybe napa? what kind of grease should i pack it with?

Default None.

New boot kit comes with grease. Grease the joint; do not pack extra grease into the boot just because you have it.

Default You'll want to remove the existing boot, thoroughly clean the CV joint, and then, as

4Driver4 says, pack the joint with new grease and place the new boot on. You'll then need to reinstall the kit and use a new bolt to tighten everything up. So the best solution is to source a CV joint kit that contains the bolt, grease, boot, and new clamps that secure the boot.

Since you doing control arms now is very good time to do the CV joint job. With the CAs out, you'll be able to swing the steering knuckle assmebly out so as to remove the CV joint.

BTW, you'll need to put the wheel on and have the tire on the floor in order to loosen the bolt that holds the hub in place. Chances are you'll need a 4 ft long tube placed over your breaker bar to get it loose. So, loosen that first, before you remove the control arms.

Default Agree on the kick in the nuts! Drill bits: I've read here that Cobalt bits from

Home Depot do a nice job of cutting into the pinch bolts.

Default Or go all titanium carbide bits from an industrial tool source, mcmaster.com p/n 2973A33

It'll cost you $21 but should save lots of time. Titanium carbide is the hardest tool material available besides coatings and diamond
