Thanks. I had assumed that it was similar to my older 4000, which had button for differential locks
On my dearly departed '86, one could engage the 4wheel drive by pushing a button. I thought that the A6 was somewhat similar, and thanks for the info.

The diff lock button does not disable quattro. It only locks the rear diff for added traction
AFAIK Audi has never had an AWD system that could be switched between 2 and 4WD.
