Default At what Milage should the Transmission Fluid be changed?

Hey Guys, just wondering at what mileage should i change the Transmission fluid, I am driving a 2004 A6 3.0....I am getting around 95k are there any other suggestions of preventative maintenance I should perform? And any suggestions of a good, reasonable, independent repair mechanic in the South Bend Indiana Area?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Unless you are having tranny trouble and that fluid has been changed every 30k, don't. Many posts on this in the archives.

At 95k, you are overdue. I'd change it.

IMHO, those who complain about problems after changing the fluid screwed up the job. The fluid should be changed, not flushed. The filter must be changed. The fluid level (and this is the most common f*** up) must be correct.

I think Press is the "god" on this subject, and I seem to recall his advice not to chance it unless there is a problem or it has been changed (not flushed) at 30k intervals.

I've got about 100k on my A6 and I'm in the midst of doing a transmission fluid change (amongst many other things, oil change, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, brake flush, and maybe a rear differential refill). The fluid that came out is NASTY! And let's not even go about how it smells...not burnt, but pretty darn nasty.

And to think it's been churning in there for the last 8 years... out it's going. A ton of sludge, but little to no metal filings on the magnets. Have the new filter and gasket in and the pan mounted.. just waiting for new drain plug and fill o-ring to arrive tomorrow before beginning the fill process.

There is no "chance" if the job is done correctly.

Sounds like you are doing it right. Follow the fill instructions to a "T". It's probably not a bad idea to recheck the level after driving a few days.

Yep, I followed the instructions from the audipages a8 transmission service, which are pretty detailed...

Can't wait to get the car back on the road again. But then again, there's some road rash and kerbing on the wheels that I would like to take care of before I put the car back out, but i'm not sure if I should just look for aftermarket wheels at this point. I wouldn't mind the newer RS4 reps, they would look pretty good on the car I think.
