I appreciate your description of "lifetime".

Auto - 50k service ( not flush) OEM fluid only. Only. Did i say only?
There may be controversy, but he manufacturer of the unit (hint: not audi) is very clear.
Manual - optional, but i would change it using oem synthetic around 75 or 100k.

Even more important - occasionally check for leaks and fludi level in tranny, both diffs. No oil is known to be bad.

Absolute baloney. They all use variants of the ZF-made 5HP19 tranny. ZF suggests something like 50,000 km intervals for service. No magic occurred between 2000 and 2001. Listening to audi dealers is dangerous to your car's health, in my opinion.

Do the service - which includes the filter and the fluid, but NOT A FLUSH

40-50k miles or 50-60k km seems reasonable. I paid abotu $150.

Thanks for any help in advance.

If you never change your engine oil, the original oil will last the lifetime of the engine...which will be about 30k miles with any luck.
Its really very simple. The lifetime is the life of the warranty. As far as Audi is concerned, if it makes it throught the warranty, its not their liability. If one is expecting to own the car for a period notably longer than that, you might want to check with other sources as to whether a lifetime auto trans fluid really exists for ANY automatic transmission

Sounds good to me. Why not apply that logic to engine oil and timing belts too?
