Default what size wheels and tires do you think this audi has?

http://www.dieselstation.com/wallpapers/Audi-RS6/Audi-RS6-009.jpg

and do you think they'll fit my 99 A6 Avant? I'm trying to come up with some phat wheels for the new (to me) avant so I'm looking for ideas. What size wheels and tires should I get that will fill the wheel wells nicely and give it a nice aggressive look? I don't want it to look like a damn all road (lot's of wheel well gap). I currently have the 16's and they look so puny please recommend some wheels, tire sizes and wheel sizes for me

What do you guys think of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-AUDI-RS6-Wheels-Audi-A8-A4-A6-S4-RS4-VW-PASSAT_W0QQitemZ7994244819QQcategoryZ43958QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem

Default Ans

18x8.5 5-spoke RS6 wheels. Almost certainly won't fit without rubbing. That car has different front fenders than yours. Check Hartman and others for slightly smaller replica wheels.

Go look in ryoung's picposter for a useful A6 wheel/tire size analysis spreadsheet. He posts in A8 a lot.

Wheel gap goes away with suspension mods (shorter springs), not with tire size. At least, not while maintaining tire diameter constant, which you should do.

So then it sounds like I need to go with the 17x7.5 rs6 replicas like these?

Real quick.. what tire sizes should I run? I wouldn't mind a "little" thicker sidewall if it'll help fill in the wheel gap a bit. Input appreciated.

Default It will fit with 235/40/18

I have a set of US spec RS6 wheels on my 2.7t. The car is lower with KW coilover raises to the highest position. The car is still at least 1 inch lower than stock. I have 255/40/18 on it and it will rub a bit on the front on hard turns and big dips. However, the rubbing did not leave any visible mark on the tire from the 3 months of driving with this set up. Good luck!

SO.. just so I'm clear on this.. 18x8.5" Audi RS6 Style Wheels will fit with 235/40/18's on my stock A6 Avant? No sport package. It's not going to give me more wheel well gap is it?

5x112mm LUG CIRCLE DIAMETER
TIA.

Default No rubbing?

I'd find that surprising.

Default Suggestions:

1) Take the time to understand wheel / tire diameter calculations. They aren't that difficult, if you can do basic circle math and algebra.

2) DON'T try to lessen "wheel gap" by running a bigger tire diameter than stock. Lowering the car via suspension mods is the way to attack that.

Default Re: Suggestions:

I didn't think I would have to reinvent the wheel. I thought that many A6 Avant owners would have already been down this path, so rather than try to figure out calculations (as simple as they may be) I thought I could get some quick answers. I know that lowering a car is the typical way to attack wheel gap. I have an M3 that I track/race that has TCKline double adjustable Koni coilovers on it with too many other suspension mods to list. My wagon isn't going to get that kind of attention. It's a daily driver that exists for taking my son/wife to and from the daycare and getting groceries. I would like to keep the stock ride intact but unless I'm missing something I don't see anything wrong with getting some more "cushion" if you will, with a taller wheel while getting rid of 'some' wheel gap.

Perhaps Audi's are more sensitive to this and someone can enlighten me. Will it throw off the ecu? I know the speedo will be off a mile or two but that doesn't bother me. If it starts to mess with the quattro or something else someone please tell me. I run many different size wheels and tires on the M3 and have had no issues whatsoever. IE I run a 245/40 tire on a 8.5" wheel on the street. Sometimes I run a 235/40 tire on a 8.5 wheel on the street, sometimes I run a 235/40 tire on 7.5's on the street and when I'm racing I run a 245/40 hoosier (more like a 255 street tire) on 17x9 SSR Competitions on the track..... sooooooo I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is here. I was hoping for some quick answers is all. At the end of the day.. all I wanted to know was, will those 18x8.5 replicas fit? If so what size tire should I put on it? Any help appreciated, otherwise I'll just call tirerack or the other contacts listed in the threads Monday. Thanks for all the help / replies, they are appreciated.

Default The quick answers were in my first post.

Didn't realize you were quite so new, and didn't know how to get at the picposter. Courtesy of ryoung:

The Torsen center diff (quattro) only cares that the diameters are the same front/rear. Don't think wheel dia affects the ECU.

Default Wheel Gap...

Jim R is right - that the only way to decrease your wheel gap is to either lower the car or increase the overall diameter of your wheel/tire combo. Both of these options require compromises.

Also note that visually an 18" with a 35 aspect ratio tire will look like it has a bigger wheel gap than a 17" rim with a 40 aspect tire even though the overall diameter is the same.

The OEM RS6 18x8.5 rim w/ ET30 will likely fit w/o having to roll your fenders or rubbing if you stick with 235s or narrower; i say "likely" only because different brands of tires have different actual width and shoulder profile and can vary by as much 1-2 cm than a similarly sized tire from a different manufacturer. The best fit for your car would be replica 18x8 w/ ET35 with 235/35-18 tires; or OEM 17x8 with 235/40...actually if you run 8" with ET35 you could probably run 245s or 255s w/no issues.
